 Pakistan is located in the Northern Hemisphere. It has Five Provinces Sindh, Punjab, Baluchistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Punjab means the land of five rivers.It is called so because river Indus, Jhelum,Chenab, Ravi and Sultlej flow throw punjab.

Punjab is a province of  Pakistan. The capital of Punjab is Lohore. Punjab has the population of 80 million people and an area of 79,284 miles or 205,344 km in terms of area. The province of punjab is greater (in area) than Kyrgystan but smaller than Belarus. 

Since 1950 s punjab was industrialized rapidly. New factories were established in Lahore, Multan, Sialkot and wah. In 1960 s the new city of Islamabad was built near Rawalpindi.

Agriculture continues to be the largest sector of punjab economy. This province is the bread basket of the country, as well as home to the largest ethnic group in Pakistan, the punjabis.

Punjab witnessed major battles between the armies f India and Pakistan in the wars of 1965 and 1971. Multan, Faisalabad, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Jhelum and Rawalpindi etc, are important cities of Punjab. Nearly 60% of Pakistans  population lives Punjab.

It is the nations only province that touches every other province. It also surrounds the federal enclave of the national capital city Islamabad.

The province is mainly a fertile region along the river valleys while sparse deserts can also be found near the border with Rajasthan and the Sulaiman Range. The region contains the Thar and Cholistan deserts. The Indus river and its many tributaries travel the Punjab from north to south.

The climate is a factor, contributing to the economy of Punjab. There are three main seasons and two transitional periods. During the hot seasons, temperature may reach 49 c . The monsoon season is a period of heavy rainfall. The transitional period after the monsoon period is cool and mild.


The dresses which Punjabi people wear, are mixture of bright colour, comfort and beauty. Women and girls wear salwar kameez with dopattass. Traditional dress of men comprises kurta with lungi or dhoti. In rural areas men also wear turban called "Puggaree".

Lahore (capital of punjab) is a city of historical places such as Lahore fort, Shalimar Gardens, Jahangir's Tomb, Noor Jehan's Tomb, Minar-e-Pakistan and Badshahi Masjid.

The tomb of Allama Iqbal who played an important role to get Pakistan is also in Lahore.
